4A: Professional Development/Learning Communities
The school executive ensures that the school is a professional learning community.
Data Driven PLC's
Professional Learning Communities have been used as weekly grade level meetings in the past. This year the administrative team transformed the structure of PLC's to be a collaborative culture that is driven by data. We created our very first data wall so we may look at each class, grade level, and the school holistically. As part of the administrative team, I assisted teachers with analyzing student data and engaging in collective inquiry. I assisted in facilitating discussions on best practices in teaching and strategies for student learning. Below you will find images of our data wall and the 6th grade team moving student data cards.
Video Conference with Global Educators
Networking is critical in professional development. It provides opportunities for collaboration and active learning. During inclement weather days many educators were unable to access school buildings. Educator Michael Bonner scheduled a video conference via Zoom. During the conference, I connected with educators across the country. We were able to ask questions and share best practices. As a result, I established new relationships with educators in action and added to my professional tool box. Below, you will find a copy of my Zoom online meeting ticket.
National Forum to Advance Rural Education
During my principal residency, I had the opportunity to present at the National Forum to Advance Rural Education in Ohio. The goal of the presentation was to demonstrate creative ways to strengthen teacher capacity and improve student learning through Opportunity Culture. This is also an initiative my district is implementing.

Virtual Interview With International Teacher
Martin Millennium Academy partners with Participate International. This organization helps implement true global education. The school currently has nine Spanish Immersion classes. Instruction is delivered fully in Spanish. As a result, hiring and sustaing effective teachers is a top priority. As part of the administrative team at MMA, I conducted virtual interviews with international teachers.During the selection process we looked for energetic educators who believe effective teaching and learning are essential in schools. Below is an image showing an interview video conference.
Data Driven Instruction
As a low performing school, Martin Millennium Academy had to take actions in achieving exemplary results. In order to improve teaching practices and student outcomes, the administrative team attended district wide training with Denise Watts. This training focused on action steps that drive effective coaching and helps to mentor staff in delivering best practices. We also met with district leaders to to receive training on data driven instruction. These professional development opportunities provided me with coaching techniques that provided a solid foundation for instructional improvement. Below is an initial email confirming attendance, an image taken at the professional development with Denise Watts, and minutes from data driven instruction training.
C. TEACHER AND STAFF EVALUATION:
THE SCHOOL EXECUTIVE EVALUATES TEACHERS AND OTHER STAFF IN A FAIR AND EQUITABLE MANNER WITH THE FOCUS ON IMPROVING PERFORMANCE AND, THUS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.
Teacher Observation Schedule
Measurement and development are important in teacher evaluations. During my Principal Residency at Martin Millennium Academy, I observed and evaluated several teachers throughout the year and provided feedback and support to improve teaching and learning. Below is a copy of the evaluation schedule (ch) and a documentation of a first grade pre-conference.
